Three held for selling regulated alprazolam powder

The Central Bureau of Narcotics has claimed to have busted a gang involved in the sale of the regulated alprazolam powder (Xanax) with the arrest of three peddlers, one of them a 65-year-old woman, and seized Xanax worth Rs 5 lakh in the international market from them.
"On a tip off, we arrested Shanta Sutar and seized 700 gram alprozolam powder from her near Maharaja Yeshwantrao Hospital yesterday," Indore CBN Superintendent, Dipak Dubey said today.
He said that after interrogating Sutar, the CBN arrested Balram (48) and Dilip Patidar (22) from Mandsaur district, who had delivered the consignment to Shanta.
"We impounded the motorbike from them which was used to deliver the consignment," he said, adding that the trio have been booked under Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act adding that further investigations are on.
Alprozolam is sold on the prescription of doctors from licensed chemist (medicine) shops, who have to duly maintain such transactions detail.
A fortnight ago, two persons were arrested with 19,425 alprozolam tablets here.
