Amit Kumar Thakur, Kuldeep Giri and Laxmi Narayan, who work in different mobile firms, were arrested for commiting theft at a cell phone tower of Aircel and 20 stolen batteries and six mobile phones were recovered from their possession.

The arrests came on a complaint filed by Aircel alleging that on the intervening night of June 26 and 27, four persons came to the tower in Vasant Kunj posing as Aircel officials and took away the batteries saying they have to be shifted to some other place.

"During enquiry by the company officials, it was found that no such officials had been sent by the Aircel Company for shifting of battery bank," a senior police official said.

Acting on a tip off, police arrested the trio who confessed to have committed theft of batteries.

"It was also learnt that accused Amit is employed in Voda Phone, Kuldeep is employed in MTS mobile company and accused Laxmi Narayan is employed in Aircel Company. They further disclosed their involvements in many such incidents of battery thefts in the past," the official said.

Later, Mobd Shadab, the receiver of stolen property, was also arrested.
