Three infants have died due to "major health complications" at S N Medical College Hospital here, doctors said today, even though the parents of the children alleged that they died due to power outage for more than six hours.
"Three infants, who were 5 to 15 days old, died of major health complications," said Dr Rajeshwar Dayal, acting principal and head paediatrics at the hospital.
One child of Renu and Jitendra from Firozabad, died around 10 pm on Monday. The child of Zeenat, belonging to Etmauddaula area here, died around 12 midnight. Another infant died yesterday around 7 am.
The parents and relatives of the infants alleged that the three children at the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit of the emergency ward died as the doctors and staff did not take prompt measures to provide power supply to the ventilators and other life support systems for more than six hours.
"Lights went off around 10.30 pm on Monday and could be restored only around 2 am on Tuesday. However, the power supply in the children's ward came around 5.20 am," hospital sources said.
"During this period, the ventilators stopped working. Oxygen was administered manually but it didn't work," they said.
Patients at the hospital said that the infants died of heat.
A two-member committee has been formed to investigate the allegations, District Magistrate Pankaj Kumar said.
