Three journalists, students and an intern arrested in violence

Three journalists, three students of Agartala Government Medical College and an intern doctor have been arrested in connection with the last week's violence in the campus, police said today.
Violence erupted in the medical college when people alleged that a woman who received injuries on her head had died of improper treatment in the medical college hospital on April 5.
The patient's relatives were allegedly beaten up by the medical students and interns and when they informed media and when the photojournalists arrived there they were also beaten up.
Altogether 27 persons including nine photojournalists were injured.
Following a deputation by the Agartala Press Club to Health Minister Tapan Chakraborty on the day of the incident, the government ordered a magisterial inquiry by the District Magistrate of West Tripura.
Police said three journalists including a woman were arrested yesterday on the basis of the complaints of the doctors that they manhandled senior doctors and damaged government properties.

The journalists identified themselves as freelancers.
The medical students and the intern were arrested on the basis of the complaints lodged by the journalists, police added.
The arrested persons were produced before the court of the first class judicial magistrate Mow Banerjee on Sunday, who remanded them three days judicial custody except the woman journalist, who was granted bail.
Meanwhile, the government has closed the medical college hostel for an indefinite period.
