Three-member German bank team to visit Kochi

A three-member team from the German development bank Kfw will be here on February 20 and 21 to hold discussions for possible financing for the development of inland waterways as a part of the overall integrated public transport system framework for the city.
KfW will have discussions with KMRL Managing Director, Elias George, and will spend time understanding the project, Kochi Metro Rail Ltd (KMRL) said in a release today.
The three-member team would also meet other stake holders, it said.
The team is also planning to visit the metro construction sites and proposed metro routes, other mobility infrastructure in the city and islands which are proposed for connecting through new boat facilities.
KMRL started initiatives for developing a modern water transport system for the Greater Kochi region, including the introduction of modern water-craft, renovation of boat-jetties and provision of connectivity between the boat-jetties and the bus & metro stations.
KfW has expressed interest in funding the project and a Detailed Project Report (DPR) on this is under preparation for submission to the Union Government and the funding agency.
It is expected to get a funding of Rs 624 crore for improving water transport, other feeder services and non- motorised transport facilities in and around Kochi.
