Three minor sisters drowned while taking bath in a pond in the district, a police official said today.

The girls, aged 7, 9 and 12 years, set out for a bath in the pond at Bhamal village last evening to have some respite from the scorching heat. However, they got swept away in the water and drowned, Khavasa police post in-charge Kesharsingh Pandav said.

The siblings ventured out of their home without informing their parents. When they did not return till late in the evening, the parents raised an alarm and launched a search for them, he said.

Later, the girls' clothes were found near the pond.

Some villagers then jumped into the pond and fished out the bodies, Pandav said.

The police later handed over the bodies to the parents after the postmortem, he said.

A case under relevant sections was registered in this connection, the police official added.
