Three persons were arrested here in Odisha's Sundargarh district today after a woman accused them and their associates of physical assault and attempt to rape on the suspicion of being a child lifter, police said.
The woman, in her early 30s and married, in a complaint lodged with the police on June 22 alleged that she was brutally beaten by the accused on the night of June 17, said Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), P K Mishra.
The woman was accosted by the accused, who mistook her to be a child lifter, when she was returning home after attending a marriage function, the DSP said quoting the complaint.
She was thrashed by the accused who also tried to sexually assault her. They thought she was dead and threw her near the railway track early in the morning, the woman alleged in her complaint, the police said.
Finally she managed to reach her home and her family members took her to Rourkela Government Hospital (RGH) where she got medical treatment till June 22, it said.
"As soon as we learnt about the incident we launched a search and nabbed the three, while search is on for some more people in this connection," the DSP added.
