Three policemen were injured in stone-pelting during a demonstration by students and parents of a school at Beckbagan in protest against the shifting of their school building on a court order.
The owner of the building, in which the Central Model School is housed on a lease, was asked by a court to shift, which triggered today's demonstration by students and their parents.
The demonstrators blocked a portion of the AJC Bose Road near Beckbagan from around 11.50 AM, a senior officer of the Kolkata Police said.
The blockade that continued till 3.20 PM affected the west-bound traffic, forcing the police to enforce several diversions of the route.
According to police officers, parents and students of Central Model School demanded that with the annual examination approaching, a shift of the school building to some other location (to Carey High School in Entally) would affect their annual results.
"There has been a legal battle between the landlord and the school management for a very long time. Now the Supreme Court has ordered that the school be moved to another location. So the old school building was shut down," he said.
