Three robbers who looted Rs 22 lakh from two businessmen brothers in Okhla last month have been arrested and Rs 1.16 lakh of the looted cash was recovered from them, police said today.
The three Ankesh Singh (29), Iqrar Khan (32) and Anuj Kumar (24) were nabbed yesterday from Tughlaqabad Institutional Area by a Crime Branch team. Apart from Rs 1.16 lakh of the cash looted from businessmen, a car purchased from the looted money, gold chain and cell phones used in robbery were recovered from them, said Ravindra Yadav, Jt Commissioner of Police (Crime).
The gang leader Sudhir Parihar alias Fauji, an army deserter, was still absconding and efforts were on to nab him and two other gang members Pankaj and Bhura who were involved in the robbery, said the officer.
The businessmen had withdrawn money from Bank of India branch in Okhla Phase-1 on July 25. When they came out of the bank, three men on motorcycles came and shot at them and took away the bag containing Rs 22.84 lakh.
The incident in broad daylight alerted the people in the area who tried to chase the trio. But, the robbers started throwing loose bank notes to distract the chasers and escaped from the spot.
The gang was also planning to kidnap a businessman from Faridabad after the loot in Okhla, said the officer.
Fauji who hails from Bhind in MP is a "most wanted" criminal in his home state and neighbouring UP. He had formed a gang with some other criminals of his area who were being helped locally in choosing targets for earning big buck by Ankesh, the officer added.
