The conjoined twins, who were girls, died on Wednesday night, Dr Saroj Satpathy, superintendent of the childrens hospital said today.
The conditions of the twins deteriorated last night with acute breathing problems and they died around 12.30 am on Wednesday night, he said.
The twins were joined at their chests and shared a single liver and a defective heart, which is considered a rare condition.
The twins were born to Kishor Dutta and Sumitra Dutta of Sharnakula village of Nayagarh district on December 1. They were shifted here to the premier childrens hospital the next day.
"It was really unfortunate that the twins did not survive to undergo a surgery for their separation," said state health minister Pratap Jena, who has been personally monitoring the status of Jaga and Kalia.
