Three women Maoists surrender in Vizag

Three women Maoists, including a 'commander' involved in 20 incidents of violence, today surrendered before the Visakhapatnam district police.
The ultras turned themselves in before the Superintendent of Police Rahul Dev Sharma at his office here.
"The Maoists who have surrendered are K Lakshmi alias Sarita, Commander of Central Region Command of the Andhra-Orissa Border(AOB), Area Committee Member B Ramulamma alias Bharati and Dalam member T Thummu alias Vijaya," Sharma told reporters.
Lakshmi, a native of Shyamgedda village, was carrying a reward of Rs 4 lakh on her head. She joined the Maoists movement in 2000 and was allegedly involved in around 30 incidents of violence including murders and attack on police stations, the officer said.

"Some of the cases were also registered in Odisha and Chhattisgarh. Apparently, Lakshmi was promoted as the first woman Commander of the Central Region Command of AOB. She allegedly used to train the cadre", he added.
"Ramulammma, a native of Labadampalli village, was with the movement for the last 20 years and also carried a reward of Rs 4 lakh.

"She was allegedly involved in 34 incidents of violence including murder, attack on police stations and exchange of fire with police," the SP said.
According to Sharma, Thummu, a native of Thartal village, was associated with the Maoists movement since 2008 and carried a reward of Rs 1 lakh.

Prima facie, health issues and difference with the leadership are some of the reasons for their surrender, he added.
