A local court today awarded life imprisonment to three persons for killing an abducted man as his family failed to pay Rs 4.5 lakh as ransom to them.
Additional Sessions Judge Indira Singh, who delivered the judgement in the three-year-old case, also imposed a fine of Rs 2,000 each on the convicts, Naushad (30), Rashid (22) and Zahid (20).
They were pronounced guilty under IPC Sections 364A (kidnapping for ransom) and 302 (murder), Public Prosecutor Hemant Mungi said.
According to Mungi, the trio kidnapped one Qayamuddin (22) on July 24, 2010, and demanded a ransom of Rs 4.5 lakh from his family for his safe release.
When they did not get any ransom, they killed him by hitting him with a shovel and a spade, and later dumped his body on the roadside, the prosecution added.
