Kishanpur Wildlife Sanctuary, part of Dudhwa Tiger Reserve, forest officials said here today.

The carcass, with multiple fractures and injuries, was detected by forest officials while on patrol yesterday, field director DTR Shailesh Prasada said.

The carcass has been sent to Indian Veterinary Research Institute in Bareilly for autopsy to ascertain the exact cause of the tiger's death, he said.

Deputy director DTR Ganesh Bhat denied any foul play in the feline's death, saying injuries on the body suggest they were caused by another wild cat.

"The tiger had its spinal chord broken with a fracture on its hind shoulder and deep bite injuries on its body, which occur in case of infighting between two tigers," Bhat said.

Officials have been on high alert over the past few days since the recovery of two tiger carcasses last week from Haripur forest range in neighbouring Pilibhit.
