The big cat probably died five days ago in a fight over the territory with another tiger, said Sanjay Thakre, Regional Manager, Forest Development Corporation of Maharashtra (North Chandrapur).
During the spot inspection, forest officials found some pug-marks and bloodstains around 25 meters away from the body.
"The tiger was a fully grown, 10 years old male, and the body parts including its canines, claws and other parts are intact. We have also found some deep injuries on its head, legs and ribs; the pug-marks of another tiger were found near the spot and they lead to Central Chandrapur Area. We are also going to launch search operation to locate the other tiger which also might have been injured in the fight," Thakre said.
Yesterday, half-eaten body of a tiger cub had been found in Dhaba range in the district. It was suspected that a pack of wild dogs had attacked it. PTI Cor
