"Prima facie it appears like the tiger was hit by a train passing through the Mid Ghat area. We are investigating the matter," Madhya Pradesh Principal Chief Conservator of Forests Narendra Kumar told PTI.
According to sources, the tiger was injured two days ago but was not noticed by the forest department.
"I was informed that the tiger was injured last night. We reached the spot in the morning to find it dead," Sehore Divisional Forest Officer K P Sharma told PTI.
Bhopal Chief Conservator of Forests Mahendra Yaduvendu, who rushed to the spot from here, said that the postmortem report of the striped tiger revealed that he died of injuries it sustained after a hit.
No bullet injury mark was seen on its body, he said.
He said that he cannot comment about when the tiger was injured and refused to comment about reports that the beast was writhing in pain since two days.
