Tiger kills man, injures another in Jharan Range forest

A 45-year-old man was killed and another grievously injured in a tiger attack this morning in the Jharan Range of forests in the district of Maharashtra.
This is the fifth human death here due to wild animal attacks in the last two and half months.
The victim, Mohansingh Thakur (45), along with Ganesh Mendade (35) and others from Berdi village, had gone to the forest for collecting wood during pre-dawn hours when a tiger attacked Thakur in compartment number 120, forest officials said.
Thakur was killed while Mendade managed to escape with injuries in the attack which attack took place at about 4.30 am, they said.
Others in the group rushed back to village after the tiger attack and informed forest officials and the in-charge Range Forest Officer (RFO) of the Jharan range, D M Uke rushed to the spot along with his team.
He said the tiger had caught Thakur by his neck and broke his neck bone, killing him on the spot.

The body was removed from the spot while Mendade who sustained injuries on his thigh and legs was sent to hospital for treatment, sources said.
Uke said Rs 25,000 was paid to Thakur's kin as an ex-gratia aid.
One Sunita Chitarlewar was killed in the same Jharan Range on February 17 but Uke said there are two tigers present in the area and the one that killed Chitarlewar is a different big cat while Thakur was killed by the other tiger in the area.
