According to Maharashtra Forest Department officials, the tiger's body was brought to Rambaugh Nursery here at about 8 pm in the evening.
Briefing reporters about the incident, Chief Conservator of Forests (Chandrapur Division) Sanjay Thakre informed that teams of forest officials, volunteers and marksmen were engaged in the area to track the tiger's movements around Dongarhaldi since a couple of weeks.
"We got a message that the tiger has been spotted near Dongarhaldi in the morning. All teams were then engaged to trace it down in the forest area. As chances of tranquillising the feline were remote, it was decided to shoot it down. Thus, the beast was shot down at about 6 pm today," Thakre said.
"It is a full grown male tiger in sound health and might be around two and half years old. The body has been kept in a freezer and formalities like an autopsy and its cremation would be conducted on Wednesday morning, as per guidelines of the National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA)," the officer said.
Meanwhile, wildlife lovers present at the scene lamented that it is a sad day for them to have lost such a "beautiful" big cat.
