Security has been stepped up across Tamil Nadu, particularly at vital installations, in view of the Republic Day celebrations tomorrow, the police said today.
A multi-layer security ring has been put in place here around Kamarajar Salai where Governor Banwarilal Purohit will review the Republic Day parade and take the salute.
Chief Minister K Palaniswami, state ministers and dignitaries are scheduled to participate in the celebrations on the arterial road facing the Marina Beach.
"Commissioners of police in the cities and superintendents in the districts have been tasked with directly supervising the security arrangements for the celebrations," a senior police official said.
Appropriate security protocol, including anti-sabotage measures to be followed for such key occasions, were being carried out and adequate personnel deployed for the purpose, he said.
Frisking of people wherever needed, checking vehicles, hotels and add-on patrols were being carried out, the official said.
Key government establishments, nuclear power stations at Kalpakkam and Koodankulam, air and sea ports, key coastal belts, and railway stations are among installations where security has been stepped up, he added.
