Tight security arrangements have been made across Haryana, Punjab and their common capital Chandigarh to ensure that New Year celebrations pass off smoothly in the region.
Security has been beefed up at key public places, especially crowded market places and shopping malls in the two states and Union Territory Chandigarh, officials said.
Check barriers have been set up at various other places including important railway stations and bus stands and police are also checking vehicles at various places including inter-state barriers to keep an eye on anti-social elements.
In Gurgaon, security has been beefed up around many shopping malls and other crowded market places, with police advising the people to carry their identity cards with them.
Some key roads in the Haryana's industrial town have been heavily barricaded while door-frame and hand-held metal detectors will be used to screen revellers, police said, adding that vigil is also being maintained through CCTV cameras to ensure that the celebrations pass off smoothly.
Anti-eve teasing squads will also keep an eye on the revellers, they said.
