At the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange, chana for delivery in October surged Rs 128, or 2.48 per cent, to Rs 5,290 per quintal, with an open interest of 170 lots.
On similar lines, the commodity for delivery in November gained Rs 24, or 0.45 per cent, to Rs 5,353 per quintal in 65,340 lots.
Analysts attributed the sharp rise in chana prices to restricted supplies from producing belts against rising demand.
