Tigress' body fished out of pond in Pandharkawda forest
Press Trust of India Yavatmal A half-decomposed carcass of a tigress was fished out of a pond at Zari area under Pandharkawda Forest Division in Yavatmal district of Maharashtra, a forest official said today.
The 5 to 7-year-old tigress, which was fished out of the pond yesterday, may have died 3 to 4 days ago, forest officer G Guruprasad said.
As no part of the body was missing, it didn't appear to be a case of poaching, he said, adding viscera of the animal have been sent to a forensic lab in Aurangabad.
"We can determine the exact cause of death only after receiving the lab report," Guruprasad said.
There were 10 tigers in Pandharkawda Forest Division as per the latest census. Discovery of the dead tigress brings down the number to nine.
