Tihar Jail authorities today filed a complaint in a fast track court here alleging misconduct and gross violation of rules by one of the December 16 gangrape accused who in turn claimed that jail officials are regularly beating him up.
"A complaint filed by inmates of ward number 1 regarding misconduct and harassment in the prison by accused Akshay Singh has been received. Application is moved on behalf of accused Akshay stating, inter alia, that he has been beaten by one Mandeep Dahiya and Jitender Patel, both jail officials," the court said.
Taking note of the allegations made by Akshay, Additional Sessions Judge (ASJ) Yogesh Khanna directed the jail authorities to get him medically examined and to also inquire into the whole matter and file a report tomorrow.
"It is stated by counsel for Akshay that he has been beaten on his chest. His medical examination be got done. Jail superintendent is directed to inquire into the matter and file a report by tomorrow," the ASJ said.
The jail authorities in their complaint to the court had alleged that they have received several complaints against Akshay from other inmates regarding misconduct and gross violation of rules and regulations by him.
Akshay along with five others, including a juvenile, had allegedly gangraped a 23-year-old girl in a moving bus here on the night of December 16, 2012. The girl had later died of her injuries in a Singapore hospital on December 29.
The complaint letter, signed by six inmates of ward 1 of the prison, was filed in court to bring to its attention "the magnitude of indiscipline and breaking of prison rules" by Akshay.
The officials also alleged that Akshay was harassing some new inmates who had supposedly participated in the candlelight march against the December 16 gangrape incident and that he also abuses the security personnel there.
Akshay, on the other hand, in a application filed through his counsel A P Singh, alleged he is being mercilessly beaten, away from CCTV cameras, by some new inmates and a couple of jail officials.
