A contract employee of Tihar Jail has been arrested by Delhi government's Anti Corruption Branch (ACB) for accepting a bribe of Rs 10,000 in lieu of facilities provided to a prisoner.
The accused, identified as Subhash Chand of Janki Puri, was caught red-handed by ACB officials yesterday following a complaint.
According to ACB officials, the complainant alleged that on July 17, his brother, who is lodged in Tihar Jail and is facing trial in an attempt to murder case, had informed him from the prison to arrange Rs 20,000 and give the same to one Assistant Superintendent of Tihar Jail in lieu of facilities provided to him in the prison.
"The prisoner had also informed that if the bribe money was not given, he would be implicated in a false case.
"Further, on July 24, the said assistant superintendent of Tihar Jail called up the complainant and directed him to come at the parking site in front of the jail along with Rs 10,000," said Additional Commissioner of Police (Anti Corruption Branch) V Renganathan.
The complainant reported the matter to ACB yesterday, following which a trap was laid and the accused was arrested.
During interrogation, Chand told ACB officials that he is working as a contract labourer employed by the PWD authorities for managing the Public Address System in the Jail Complex and was accepting the bribe money on behalf of the said Assistant Superintendent, Tihar Jail.
A case has been registered and further investigations into the case are on, the ACB officials said.
