A mix of urban chaos and traditions expressed through fishing nets of Cambodia and rail transit lines of Tokyo has been captured by writer-photographer Kishore Thukral.
Driven by Buddhist philosophy that all existence is ephemeral and there is nothing permanent about it, the artist attempts to probe the timeless bond between man and mountains through different mediums-- photographs and poetry.
"Any belief is impermanence. The relationship between man and mountain commenced years ago. It will endure till the planet survives. Their survival is our survival. Things have to pass and I attempt at capturing those moments," says Kishore Thukral.
Curator Alka Pande says it has been a task to choose and compile the pictures for the exhibition.
"There was no theme. From thousands of pictures shot, this sharp selection of 73 pictures narrates the story of Kishore's footprints through different genres, textures and tones are all held together by his personal frames.
Music composer Shantanu Moitra who has been a school friend of Thukral along with actor-photographer and author, Deepti Naval inaugurated the show here recently. The actor also unvieled a book based on the show.
The 198 page book has a collection of 171 pictures capturing the different moods of the mountains and life of the people which makes the artist's love for nature evident.
"Being a music composer I can relate and draw a connection to my songs and Kishore's pictures. A picture with rain reminds me of the song 'Baawra Mann Dekhne Chala ek Sapna' from the film 'Hazaaron Khwaishen Aisi'. The photos of Ladakh remind me of tracks from the film '3 Idiots'. These are astounding pictures," says Moitra.
