BJP today succeeded in persuading two of its sulking leaders to back the party's official nominees at Jaspur and Chaubattakhal seats in Uttarakhand.
Sitting Chaubattakhal MLA and former state BJP president Tirath Singh Rawat who had been sulking after Satpal Maharaj was fielded by the party from his seat in Pauri district has decided to support the party's official nominee in the constituency, Pradesh BJP media incharge Devendra Bhasin told PTI.
Satpal is tipped to be one of the frontrunners for chief ministership of the state if the BJP is in a position to form the next government.
Vinay Rohella, who had entered the fray as an independent from Jaspur in Udhamsingh Nagar district after being denied a ticket, has agreed to withdraw in support of sitting MLA from the seat and Congress rebel Shailendra Mohan Singhal, he said.
It took several rounds of consultations with senior party leaders to bring the two sulking leaders round to the party's view.
BJP's election incharge for Uttarakhand JP Nadda and incharge of party affairs in Uttarakhand, Shyam Jaju are also trying to convince other rebel party leaders to withdraw from the fray as tomorrow is the last day for withdrawal of nominations.
There are still at least half a dozen assembly seats where disgruntled BJP insiders are out to mar the party's polls prospects.
