TMC councillor arrested from UP in murder case
Press Trust of India Kolkata Trinamool Congress councillor Sambhunath Kow, prime accused in the March 20 violence that led to the death of a TMC supporter, was arrested from Uttar Pradesh's Balia district, the police said here today.
Joint CP (Crime), Kolkata Police, Pallab Kanti Ghosh said the arrest was made last night by a special team of the detective department.
"Sambhunath Kow will be brought to Kolkata on transit remand. We have recovered cash and three mobile phones from him," Ghosh said
Ghosh said that Kow, who was on the run since March 20, had been to Orissa and Jharkhand before landing in Uttar Pradesh.
A person was killed and another injured in a clash over a vacant piece of land in the eastern fringes of the metropolis on March 20, prompting Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee to order the arrest of Sambhunath Kow, a councillor of her own party allegedly involved in the incident.
Till now four people have been arrested in connection with the case.
