of the ruling Trinamool Congress, who was missing since last night, was found buried in a paddy field in South 24 Parganas district today.
Superintendent of Police Praveen Tripathy said 50-year-old Sunil Haldar's body was found buried near Lalpole in Mathrapur.
It appeared that he was stranguled to death, Tripathy said adding five persons were arrested in connection with the killing.
Haldar had gone missing on yesterday while returning from a party meeting.
TMC leaders of the district alleged that CPI(M) was responsible for the murder, a charge denied by the left party.
Police sources, however, said land dispute and internal bikering of the party were suspected to be the reason behind the murder.
