Former West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee today accused the ruling Trinamool Congress of maligning the Panchayati Raj system in the state and called for defeating TMC and BJP in the upcoming rural polls in the state.
The Left Front is the architect of the Panchayati Raj system and under the TMC regime the system has been "maligned due to rampant corruption and attack on democratic rights of the masses," Bhattacharjee said in a statement.
Bhattacharjee, who has been ill for last six months, today appealed to the voters of the state to defeat the ruling TMC and the BJP in the upcoming ruling polls.
"We have to defeat the ruling TMC and also ensure that BJP is defeated," he said.
"I appeal to all the Left workers of the state to remain united. We have to reach out to the masses and that cannot be done by shying away from the masses. We have to resist the violence and move forward along with the masses," he said.
