TMC peasants' wing holds first ever farmers' conference

West Bengal Minister Subrata Mukherjee today said farmers should be the true ambassadors for the pro-people development initiatives of the state government.
The Public Health Engineering Minister, who addressed the first conference of Paschimbango Trinamool Kisan O Khetmojur Congress (West Bengal Trinamool Farmer and Day-labourer Congress) here, said, "the Trinamool Congress came to power riding on the land movement and we had never wavered from pro-farmer and pro-daily labourer plank in the past five years".
"It is the task of our farmer representatives to take the message to their respective areas, that the TMC government has ensured amenities for rural population from drinking water to irrigation, to road projects," he said.

West Bengal Power Minister Manish Gupta said while the state always believed in providing electricity at cheap subsidised rate to the rural consumers, a sizeable section of them being farmers, certain vested interests were stoking controversy over power tariff and instigating people.
Meanwhile, Singur TMC MLA Rabindranath Bhattacharya was not present at the deliberations.
Mukherjee claimed Bhattacharya was not well and hence he could not attend but the veteran MLA claimed to a section of media that he was not formally apprised about the conference.
West Bengal Minister of State for Agriculture Becharam Manna said 1400 farmer representatives will fan out to different areas to spread the message of the conference.
