TMC's women's wing, led by Chandrima Bhattacharya today took out the rally in central Kolkata demanding immediate withdrawal of the decision.
"The decision must be withdrawn immediately. Will children in schools starve because of this anarchic policy of Modi government ? There are a lot of students who benefit by the midday meals provided by the schools," Bhattacharya said.
West Bengal Chief Minister and Trinamool Congress supremo Mamata Banerjee had on Saturday slammed the Centre's move as 'shocking'.
The HRD Ministry had said that cook-cum-helpers working under the midday meal scheme as well as the student beneficiaries will be required to have Aadhaar cards to avail the facility.
Those who are not yet enrolled for Aadhaar cards have been given time till June 30.
