TMC protest on Sept 4 seeking lower toll charges

Protesting the proposed increase in toll rates, the youth wing of Tamil Maanila Congress (Moopanar) would hold agitation at all the 48 toll plazas in Tamil Nadu onb September 4, its leader G K Vasan today said.
There were 48 toll plazas in the state. Of this rates for 28 were proposed to be increased from April, he told reporters here.
He urged the state and central governments to reduce the toll charges by 60 per cent.
Stating that government had acquired 2,400 acres for the Salem Steel Plant here, he said only 400 acres had been put to use and the remaining should be alloted for setting up small scale industries.
Vasan also opposed freebies to the people, saying it would not lead to development.
On the demand for prohibition, he said most of the people in the state wanted liquor to be banned and they would lose faith in the government if it did not meet their wish.
