TMC should seek public opinion on renaming WB: Mannan

The Trinamool Congress government should seek public opinion regarding its decision to rename West Bengal, Leader of Opposition in state Assembly Abdul Mannan said today.
"The state government should seek public opinion on the matter of name change. Although there is no such provision of seeking a public opinion on a particular issue, the state government should discuss the matter with all political parties and mass organisations to have an opinion on the subject," he said.
"The sentiments of the people of Bengal are associated with it. They should have their opinion before making a decision on the matter," he added.

Mannan, however, refused to comment on the BJP's opposition to changing the name of the state.
The state cabinet had recently decided to rename the state as Bengal after its earlier proposal of 'Paschim Bango', made in 2011, was vetoed by the Centre.
