Grappling with desertions from his party CPI-M and ally Congress, West Bengal Left Front chairman Biman Bose today accused the Trinamool Congress of trying to establish single-party rule in the state.
Bose alleged that the TMC was out on a "shopping spree" and was 'buying' public representatives belonging to opposition parties just like purchasing cows and goats.
"What goes on in the state does not reflect democracy, but autocracy of the highest order. Why are they so afraid of the Opposition? They want to wipe out every sign of opposition in the state. TMC is trying to establish single-party rule in Bengal," Bose said.
The TMC today took over the effective control of Left Controlled Kultuli Panchayat, as 13 panchayat members of the Left today switched over to the Trinamool Congress.
Countering Bose's contention, state minister and TMC's South 24-Parganas district president Sovan Chatterjee said, "We are not forcing or asking anyone to join our party. Those who want to be part of the development process initiated by Mamata Banerjee are joining TMC on their own."
Since last week, several Congress and Left councillors have switched over to the TMC helping the Trinamool Congress to take over the several opposition-controlled municipalities of the state.
