TN Acting Guv, Jayalalithaa extend Teacher's Day greetings

: Tamil Nadu Acting Governor Chennamaneni Vidyasagar Rao, Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa and DMK Chief M Karunanidhi today extended their greetings to teachers on the eve of Teacher's Day.
"On the occasion of Teacher's Day, the birthday of former President Dr Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, I extend my warm greetings and best wishes to all teachers across the country," Rao said in a Raj Bhavan release.
"Today Dr Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan stands for emulation and is highly regarded by every Indian and especially those in the teaching fraternity," he said.
"Let us show our gratitude and respect to our teachers for making us what we are today. I appeal to the teaching fraternity to reorient themselves and evolve new methodologies for laying a strong foundation in students to make India a global leader," he said.
Rao has been given additional charge of Tamil Nadu as the tenure of K Rosaiah as Governor ended on August 30.
Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa in her message said she has issued orders to hike the cash prize given to teachers receiving Best Teacher Award, instituted by the state government from the existing Rs 5,000 cash prize to Rs 10,000.

"Every year the Tamil Nadu government honours those teachers who have done exceptional service by presenting them Best Teacher's Award," she noted.
"In a move to further encourage the teaching fraternity, I have issued orders to increase the cash prize from the existing Rs 5,000 to Rs 10,000 given to teachers receiving the Best Teacher Award," she added.
DMK Chief M Karunanidhi, in his greetings listed steps his party had taken when in power for the welfare of teachers.
"I extend my greetings to teachers on behalf of the party," he said in a statement.
