TN allots Rs. 505.03 cr for upgrading highways

: Tamil Nadu government has earmarked Rs. 505.03 crore for upgrading and taking up new highway projects in the financial year 2017-18.
Through the Ministry of Road Transport, Shipping and Highways Highways, an expenditure of Rs. 798.27 crore was incurred for widening and construction of bridges in the State, according to a policy note tabled in the Assembly today.
For the develpment of State roads under inter-state connectivity scheme, an expenditure of Rs. 51.66 crore was incurred during the financial year 2016-17.
"For the financial year 2017-18, a budget provision of Rs. 505.03 crore has been earmarked for centrally sponsored State schemes," it said.
Last year, the government had incurred an expenditure of Rs. 168.61 crore under revamped central road and Bharat Nirman maintenance fund schemes, it added.
