Tamil Nadu clocks Rs 20,128 crore commercial tax revenue in April-July period

Commercial Tax revenues in Tamil Nadu rose by 6.55 per cent to Rs 20,128.16 crore in the first four months of the ongoing fiscal compared to Rs 18,890 crore in the year-ago period.

The government has collected revenues of Rs 20,128.16 crore as of July for the financial year 2016-17. This was 6.55 per cent higher than the revenue collected during same period of the preceding year, an official release said.

Commercial Taxes Minister K C Veeramani, who reviewed the performance of the department at the Secretariat on Friday, directed officials to take steps to collect taxes pending for a long time, it said.

Further, it said, 78 per cent of the traders' community utilised e-filing facility while 90 per cent of the taxes were made through e-payments.

The Minister also directed officials to take stringent actions against traders who have gained tax benefits by producing false documents.
