With reservoirs that feed the city rapidly nearing their full capacity, aided by copious rainfall, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa today ordered supply of 830 Million Litres of Water a Day to residents of the state capital, up from the present 535 MLD.
"I have ordered supply of 830 MLD of water every day for Chennai city. Due to this, the necessary drinking water will be supplied to the people everyday," she said.

Also, the New Veeranam Scheme, two desalination plants and hired farm wells in Tiruvallur District too cater to the needs of Chennai.

Suburban Avadi, Ambattur, Ullagaram, and Puzhuthivakkam too would get piped water supply as work to provide drinking water is complete, she added.
