TN economy will do well if Jaya assumes charge: BJP Minister

In an apparent indication of softening of stance towards AIADMK, BJP leader and Union Minister Pon Radhakrishnan today said Tamil Nadu's economy will do well if Jayalalithaa returns as Chief Minister.
"In the present situation, only if Jayalalithaa became the Chief Minister, the state administration and economy would do well," he told reporters here days after she was acquitted in the disproportionate assets case by Karnataka High Court. This has cleared decks for her return as chief minister.
Also, the economic growth as well as the relationship between the state and central governments would improve if she took over the mantle, he said, adding more projects would also come into the state.
His remarks assume significance as the BJP had been critical of AIADMK and had alleged corruption in governance even till recently.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, some of his senior cabinet colleagues besides BJP state chief Tamilisai Soundararajan had greeted Jayalalithaa on the day of the verdict.
Tamilisai had later said her greetings was out of political decency.
In reply to query on the Land Bill, Radhakrishnan, Minister of State for Shipping, said it was intended to help the farmers and that Congress was misleading the people.
