He said Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa has ordered a subsidy of 35 per cent in the bamboo cultivation expenditure incurred by farmers under the National Agro-forestry policy and National Bamboo Mission.
The subsidy would be Rs 10,500 per hectare, he said adding that in the current year, the plan would cover 288 acres at an outlay of Rs 51 lakh.
Replying to the discussion on the Demand for grants to his department, he said importance was being given to cultivation of medicinal plants, including black night shade, tulsi, gooseberry and long pepper.
In addition, inter cropping of cocoa in coconut, in 2,000 acre has been proposed, he added.
