TN Guv holds meeting with district officials in Coimbatore

Tamil Nadu Governor Banwarilal Purohit today held a meeting with top district officials here during his visit to attend the convocation of a city-based state-owned university.
District Collector T N Hariharan, city Corporation Commissioner and Special Officer Dr K Vijayakarthikeyan, Police Commissioner Dr A Amalraj and Superintendent of Police P Murthy were among those who attended the meeting, official sources said without elaborating.
A fringe outfit attempted to hold a blackflag demonstration protesting against the Governor holding meeting with district officials.
Thanthai Periyar Dravida Kazhagam chief K Ramakrishnan alleged that the meeting was an 'unprecedented interference' in the district administration.
Police said they removed the activists, led by Ramakrishnan, when they attempted to hold the protest in front of the Circuit House where the meeting was held.
State Higher Education Minister, K P Anbalagan and Municipal Administration Minister, S P Velumani said the autonomy of the state would not not be affected by the meeting the Governor held with the officials.

Replying to questions by reporters, Anbalagan said it would not affect the autonomy and rights of the state.
Velumani, who met the Governor after the meeting, also maintained such meetings would not affect the state's rights.
Earlier, Purohit, who took charge as the state Governor last month, attended the convocation of Bharathiar University. Anbalagan also took part in the event.
