TN milk producers union to stop supply to co-op societies
Press Trust of India: Tamil Nadu Milk Producers Union today said it would stop supply to cooperative societies in the state from January 1, as government had 'failed' to respond to various demands, including tackling rising price of cattle feed and Foot and Mouth disease.
Union President Senkottuvel and General Secretary Rajandran said their pleas to increase procurement price of milk following a 52 per cent rise in price of cattle feed as also steps to prevent bovine deaths due to Foot and Mouth disease had not yielded any result.
Pointing out that even cattle which survived the disease were yielding less milk, they alleged Village Administrative Officers had not recorded the death of about 30,000 heads of cattle.
The union leaders said government had also not considered increasing the salaries of about 24,000 employees working in 8,000 milk cooperatives.
