Days after his party announced a contribution of Rs one crore for flood relief operations in Tamil Nadu, DMK President M Karunanidhi today accused the state government of evading a cheque for the amount.
"Officials are dodging (accepting) the cheque even after a request to the office of the Chief Secretary seeking an appointment to give the cheque," he said.
Such a response, "has given room to think if the higher ups had ordered them (officials) to not accept the cheque," he said in a statement.
Still, on behalf of the DMK, efforts were being continued to secure an appointment from the top officials (to hand over the cheque), he said. "This is the reason for delay in giving the party's relief that was announced," he said.
On November 17, he had announced Rs one crore towards relief work on behalf of his party.

In Puducherry, DMK accused the AINRC Government of
'failure to evolve and implement relief measures' for the rain ravaged people.
Convenor of the DMK's South wing R.Siva led a demonstration at the Collectorate pressing the party's demand that the government send a detailed report to the Centre on the rain havoc, a report from Puducherry said.
Those who lost their houses in the rain should be adequately compenstated and a central team should be sought and a detailed report on rain damages should be submitted to the Centre, he said.
