While various steps have ensured addition of 4640 mw in the last four years, the state will receive an additional 2,163 mw "in some months", Chief Minister O Panneerselvam said in the Assembly.
Intervening during the debate on the motion of thanks to the Governor for his address, he said that with a slew of projects lined up, the state was on the verge of attaining self-sufficiency in power supply.
Among the big projects was the 4000 mw thermal power project at Cheyyur, where the state's share was 1,200 mw while works were on regarding the Sillahalla (2000 mw) and Kundah (500 mw) hydel power projects.
Further, state-run TANGEDCO had inked pacts for long-term procurement of 3330 mw of power, he said.
"Overall, steps have been taken by this government for generating 16,033 mw of thermal power, 2,607 mw of hydel power and 3330 mw through long-term procurement and 500 mw of mid-term procurement, all totalling 22,440 mw," he said.
