Various political parties, including the DMK, today hit out at the Centre for the latest hike in prices of petrol and diesel and demanded its rollback.
"I urge the Union Government to reconsider, take advantage of the global reduction in crude oil prices and not hike rates in the interest of people," DMK Treaurer M K Stalin, son of party Chief M Karunanidhi, said in a Facebook post.
The prices have seen a cumulative increase of Rs 7.09 for petrol and Rs 5.08 for diesel, Stalin noted.
CPI(M) State Secretary G Ramakrishnan said the increase would hit the common man "reeling under the rise in prices of essential commodities."
PMK chief S Ramadoss, whose party is an ally of NDA, said the increase in fuel prices should be immediately rolled back and wanted the Centre to take back the authority to determine fuel prices. "The increase will lead to rise in prices of essential commodities," he said.
AIADMK chief Jayalalithaa had yesterday urged the Centre to rollback the increase immediately.
