TN's claim over power to be decided after hearing others: Govt

"Other requesting states/agencies are necessary parties and ought to be heard/impleaded as they may be prejudiced in the event of any order being passed" on Tamil Nadu's plea for allocation of entire power being surrendered by Delhi, the Centre told a bench of Chief Justice Altamas Kabir and Justice J Chelameswar.

Tamil Nadu government has moved the court for a direction to the Centre to allocate it 230 MW of power round the clock and 1491 MW power from midnight to 6 AM, being surrendered by Delhi government.

The Centre, in its reply, said the National Thermal Corporation (NTPC), during September-October, wrote letters to various power utilities/ departments in different states/Union Territories including Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation Ltd (TANGEDCO) enquiring about their requirements.

Power Utilities of Assam, Uttar Pradesh, J&K, Dadar & Nagar Haveli, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Bangalore also made applications for allocation of power to be surrendered by Delhi, it said.
