Announcing Rs one lakh to his poverty-stricken family, Jayalalithaa said, "I was deeply concerned after coming to know that the victim sustained injuries when the handgun of police inspector of Neelangarai Police Station, when he was interrogating him (Ansari), went off accidentally."
She had directed that good medical care be provided to the boy who has been admitted to a private hospital.The state government will bear the entire medical expenses, she said.
In a statement, she wished the boy speedy recovery.
The boy, an accused in a theft case, had suffered serious injuries after the handgun of the Inspector went off at the station last week.
An FIR under IPC Section 338 (causing grievous hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others) had been filed against the inspector who has been placed under suspension.
