The Tamil Nadu Congress Committee today decided to stage protests against the Centre for approving amendments to the Land Acquisition Act, which it termed as "anti-farmer".
"This meeting condemns the BJP government's approval for amendment to the Land Acquisition Act, initially brought in by the previous Congress government to protect the interests of farmers," the party said after its Executive Council meeting today.
Terming it as an "anti-farmer" act, the party decided to protest against the decision in all district headquarters and dates for the protest would be announced soon, it said.
The Centre had in December last recommended promulgation of an ordinance making significant changes in the Land Acquisition Act, including removal of consent clause for acquiring land for five areas of industrial corridors, PPP projects, rural infrastructure, affordable housing and defence.
AICC General Secretary Mukul Wasnik, TNCC President E V K S Elangovan were present in the executive council meeting.
