Goa Water Resources Minister Vinod Palyekar today said in order to tighten the noose around rising drug menace in the state, it is the government's priority to heighten police presence along the coastal belt.
Goa police launched a massive crackdown on the drug trade in state's coastal belt in last one week, in the wake of the death of two youth last Sunday, due to drug overdose.
"Drugs should be completely wiped out from the coastal belt. We are already on the job. The first priority is to increase police presence in vulnerable spots," Palyekar told reporters.
The two youth, who hailed from Tamil Nadu, had consumed drug at Vagator beach, which is located in Palyekar's constituency Siolim.
The minister said special focus would be around Anjuna and those beaches where the sale of drug is high.
He said whoever is involved in the trade or nexus will be arrested irrespective of the stature of the person.
