The future of Hindi is bright in the country, Haryana Governor Kaptan Singh Solanki said here today while noting that a nation is "incomplete" without its national language.
Solanki, a retired English professor, said the identity of India is "incomplete" without Hindi.
"Hindi and Hindustan are synonymous. If you want to understand Hindustan then you must know Hindi," he said at a Vishwa Hindi Diwas programme organised by the Vishwa Hindi Parishad, Delhi, and the Official Language Department of the Home Ministry.
In his keynote address, Rajya Sabha MP Tarun Vijay said it was ironical that programmes aiming at promotion of Hindi were held, and asserted that the language did not need protection from anyone.
"Hindi is not in danger. It is you who are in danger because your identity is nothing without Hindi," Tarun said.
Citing about exuberance of words of regional languages like Tamil and Telugu in Hindi, he said that it could achieve its rightful place as national language with a smooth inclusions and borrowings from other Indian languages.
The Official Language Department Secretary, Prabhash Jha, said that there is need to give a "working" form to Hindi for its wider acceptance.
