The Ubisoft's film is based on the company's video game Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell.
Eric Singer is writing the script, which has been described as a stealth video game revolving around field agent Sam Fisher, a highly trained special operative in a fictional black-ops division. He and his team battle international terrorists, the Hollywood Reporter said.
The first game debuted in 2002 and also featured tie-in book. Five other game installments have appeared since with a sixth one, Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell Blacklist, set for release in spring 2013. Ubisoft says more than 23 million units of the game have been sold.

Hardy, whose last big screen outing was as Bane in 'The Dark Knight Rises', is currently in Namibia shooting 'Mad Max: Fury Road'.
